Pintail Technologies has successfully released its real-time test solutions on the proprietary tester used by the world’s third largest semiconductor company. The solutions include Pintail’s SwifTest-MX™ that accelerates test throughput for both mixed-signal and functional devices and SwifTest-AQ™ that performs parts average testing to maximize product quality.
“Texas Instruments has been very pleased using Pintail’s SwifTest-MX to reduce test time at both probe and final test on commercial ATE platforms for several years,” reported José Ramon, Operations Engineering Manager for TI’s Technology & Manufacturing Group. “Our proprietary tester known as VLCT has also proven to be very successful within TI and we are happy to now have Pintail’s advanced productivity and quality improvement software available on the VLCT.”
“Texas Instruments continues to lead the industry in productivity and quality,” Taylor Scanlon, president and chief executive officer of Pintail. “By expanding their use of Pintail’s real-time software to their primary test platform, they reinforce their commitment to their customers for cost effective, top quality products.”
SwifTest™ is Pintail’s patented software solution that performs real-time monitoring, outlier detection and rejection, and adaptive test while running on the user’s automated test equipment (ATE.) Users realize the benefits of accelerated test throughput using their existing testers, test programs and test procedures. Because SwifTest works at both wafer probe and final test, users can further optimize their overall test plans to achieve maximum throughput and quality.
“Pintail’s test improvement software solutions have proven to be successful and valuable tools for fabless companies, IDMs, ATE vendors and assembly and test services throughout the world,” explained Scanlon. “Pintail’s quality-conscious customers, including Texas Instruments, have seen significant reductions in cost of test while further improving outgoing quality. For
example, SwifTest is one of the few tools in the world that can perform parts average testing (PAT) at final test, which is a growing requirement in automotive electronics and other high reliability markets.”
“It was important to TI that this innovative software meet several requirements in order to be deployed on a worldwide basis within TI,” stated Marc Mydill, Director Test Technology for TI’s Technology & Manufacturing Group:
• Efficient: The software must not slow down our testers or consume valuable
computer and network resources.
• Robust: The software had to be able to be integrated into our production flow
without risk and without interfering with our internal data warehousing procedures
• Easy to Use: In order to get a wide range of business units to use the tool, it has
to be easy to implement for test and product engineers.
• Versatile: The solution needs to work at both probe and final test. It needs to
support both parametric and digital tests.
Pintail’s delivered SwifTest for the VLCT that meets all of these requirements,” concluded Mydill.
SwifTest is licensed in three configurations – SwifTest-Monitor, SwifTest-AQ and SwifTest-MX – depending on the customer’s needs for unique, real-time data capture and decision-making capabilities. The SwifTest solutions are available for most modern testers, including Teradyne’s FLEX, CATALYSTs, Tigers, A5xx, J750, and Verigy’s V93000, the LTX-Fusion and various Credence platforms. Tens of millions of devices are shipped each month on a worldwide basis using some form of SwifTest technology to improve test results. The product is installed and supported at most leading test subcontractors throughout Asia.
